About WUDC
The World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC) 2025 was a high-level academic debating tournament, recognized as the most prestigious in the world. Since its inception in 1981, the championship has grown to include more than 400 teams representing over 380 universities from different parts of the world.
In 2025, Panama hosted the event, marking only the second time this tournament was held in Latin America, following Mexico in 2018. The country’s selection as the host reflected the growth of the debating circuit in the region and strengthened its presence on the global stage.
Throughout the event, multiple debates took place with participants from around the world, fostering the exchange of ideas and the development of critical thinking.
Competition Format
The WUDC followed the British Parliamentary (BP) format, where four teams (two opposing and two supporting a motion) competed in each round. This format emphasized strategic argumentation, teamwork, and the ability to respond quickly to challenges presented by each motion.
Venue and Logistics
The Colegio de La Salle in Panama hosted the event, providing optimal facilities for the competition and the comfort of the participants.
Impact and Reflection
The World Universities Debating Championship 2025 reaffirmed the importance of university debate at a global level and left a significant impact on the Latin American academic community. Hosting this event has strengthened the debating scene in the region and has laid a solid foundation for future international competitions.
