About the World Schools Debate Championship (MED):

The MED is a platform for cultural exchange and the building of international friendships. During the event, 154 participants, including debaters, judges, and advisors, or up to 171 when including the Academic Team and Independent Adjudicators, had the opportunity to interact with peers from different countries, attend workshops and seminars on current topics, and enhance their debate and communication skills. We strongly believe that participation in this event not only enriches students’ educational experience but also contributes to the development of critical skills such as critical thinking, argumentation, and teamwork.

Key Competitions and Activities:

Main Debate Competition: The heart of the MED, bringing together the best debaters from both national and international schools across Latin America in the World Schools Style format. Proposition vs. Opposition: Each debate involves two teams—one proposing (the proposition) and the other opposing (the opposition) a motion, which can be either pre-announced or impromptu, requiring minimal preparation. Judging Criteria: Students are evaluated not only on their ability to construct and present solid arguments but also on their skill in listening and effectively responding to opposing viewpoints. Judges, who are experts in debate and argumentation, score teams based on content, style, and strategy.
